BreastScreen Coorparoo has reopened across the road in a spacious new facility boosted by a second mammography machine.

With no interruption to screening services throughout the coordinated effort, the new facility at Coorparoo was established with the additional machine in order to move the service and continue planned screening while the original machine was decommissioned for move.

Medical Director of BreastScreen Queensland in Metro South Health, Dr Kate Taylor said the boosted screening capacity for women on the southside is significant.

“The Brisbane southside satellite based at Coorparoo has a proud 25 -year history as the fifth location established within Brisbane South.

“Up until now, Coorparoo satellite has provided 7,000 services per year,” she said.

“The growth in population of women in this corridor is anticipated to see 11,000 women receive breast screening services from this location which is in line with the projections in our BreastScreen Queensland 2032 Strategic Plan.”

The welcoming facility now benefits from a second mammography machine, separate reporting room, staff office to accommodate the team who perform all the other support functions, and a calming environment to improve the experience of thousands of women from Brisbane’s inner east who will access the service every two years.

Princess Alexandra Hospital’s Division of Cancer Services oversees the local service and has advocated heavily for many years alongside BreastScreen colleagues for the expanded and refurbished service, for the comfort of both staff and the women accessing the service.

A grand reopening was hosted at the venue on Tuesday 6 May to celebrate the partnership efforts of Queensland Health, PA Hospital Corporate Services and Executive teams, and PAH Division of Cancer Services alongside the team at BreastScreen Queensland Brisbane Southside Service.
