Four Metro South Health colleagues have been named among the King’s Birthday Honours recipients for 2026.
Celebrated for their significant contributions to medicine, research, health equity and administration, the MSH recipients are among 949 remarkable Australians honoured on 8 June.
For the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO):
Professor H. Peter Soyer | VMO Dermatologist, PA Hospital
Prof Soyer is awarded for his distinguished service to dermatology, to the diagnosis of skin cancer, to medical research and development, and to governance roles. With a long list of clinical and research accolades, Prof Soyer is one of Australia’s most decorated dermatologists. Bringing together bench to bedside research, alongside cutting-edge technology and clinical expertise, Prof Soyer’s research and his extensive collaborations showcase translational research in action, alongside enhanced outcomes for patients diagnosed with melanoma.
Emeritus Professor David McIntyre | Staff Specialist Endocrinologist, PA Hospital
For nearly four decades, Prof David McIntyre has dedicated his career to advancing the field of Diabetes and Endocrinology. Distinguished for his contribution to clinical advancement, research, teaching and mentorship, Prof McIntyre is one of Australia’s foremost diabetes management experts. His career portfolio boasts countless accolades and over 395 research papers published, alongside pioneering the introduction of contemporary diabetes management programs to Australia.
For the Member of the Order of Australia (AM):
Mr Matthew Ames | Deputy Chair, Metro South HHS Board
A Metro South Health Board member since 2022, Matthew is named for his significant service to community health, to engineering, to business administration, and to corporate governance. Matthew advocates for consumers on several Queensland Health committees and has more than 20 years’ experience in environmental health and safety, and risk management.
Associate Professor Noel Hayman | Founder, Southern Queensland Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care
A proud Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon man, Associate Prof Noel Hayman is honoured for his exemplary service to Indigenous health care access and medical education. Known as one of Australia’s leading Indigenous health experts and advocates, Associate Prof Hayman is the founder of the Southern Queensland Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care at Inala. In his current role as Clinical Director of the Inala Indigenous Health Service, he mentors and trains Indigenous doctors, advanced trainees in paediatrics, visiting specialists, and GP Registrars to advance Indigenous health research and outcomes.
