Hundreds of pocket-sized hearts have been handed out across Logan Hospital this week to spread a little kindness and compassion with staff, patients and visitors.

Mental health professionals from all streams got behind the project, hand-stitching the tiny gifts to share during Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW).

Administration Officer Belinda Venables and Recreation Officers facilitated the activity across Logan’s mental health teams and said the idea was inspired by this year’s QMHW theme ‘Build Community, Build Wellbeing’.

“We made the hearts as part of the 1000 Hearts global kindness community project, a movement built around the mental and physical health benefits of kindness, community and hand-stitching,” she said.

“We believe that making and sharing these hearts is a simple way we can spread kindness, show compassion and help make sure those around us feel part of our community.”

Each heart was packaged with a message encouraging recipients to give it a squeeze when they need a reminder of love, hope, courage or comfort.

The cards were signed by the staff member who made each heart, adding a personal touch to the small gifts that were handed out at the hospital’s main entry.

Logan’s mental health team also came together to host a pop-up stall showcasing artwork created by consumers that included an inspiring poster filled with words of hope and encouragement.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone involved in making this year’s Queensland Mental Health Week celebrations at Logan Hospital a memorable one.
