Logan Hospital's Child and Youth Acute Response Team (ART) was in the spotlight when Minister for Health and Mental Health Shannon Fentiman announced a multi-million dollar boost for Queensland children earlier this month.
The Logan ART was highlighted as a great example of how the service model helped young people across the state deal with their unique challenges.
During the announcement, Leah Matthews, mother of a consumer of Logan's Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS), told of the profound impact the service had on the lives of young people facing mental health crises; sharing that her daughter owed her life to the support provided by the ART.
CYMHS ART Team Leader Ryan Zeppa-Cohen said the team had cared for almost 2500 children across Logan and Redland hospitals since it formed in 2021.
"The team provide a streamlined emergency department assessment for young people experiencing a mental health crisis, including those at risk of suicide, and their families/carers at both hospitals," he said.
"We take a whole of family approach and we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the young people and families we have seen."
The almost $68 million investment will fund new and expanded child and youth ART's across 12 hospital and health services in Queensland, making it the biggest investment in youth mental health and alcohol and other drugs services by any government.
