Tracheostomy Management Workshops help build confidence in caring for patients with a tracheostomy

The first multidisciplinary tracheostomy management workshop of the year was recently held at Logan Hospital, with strong staff attendance.

Led by Speech Pathology in partnership with nursing, ENT and ICU teams, the workshop brings together staff from medical, surgical, nursing and allied health areas to build confidence in caring for patients with a tracheostomy.

Now in its sixth year, the workshop continues to grow in popularity. The latest session introduced a consumer perspective, led by Speech Pathologist Monique Vizzarri and Psychologist Jessica Hampton.

Speech Pathologist Shabeena Miskin said feedback was very positive, with participants valuing the new psychology component and hands-on simulation.

“Adding a patient's experience is really important, so it was good to get an exact idea of what they experience and how we can improve it,” one participant said.

Another workshop is planned for later this year, with registration details to be shared soon.
