Move over, Goldilocks. There’s a new porridge expert in town!

A recipe developed by the Logan Hospital Food Services Team has been crowned the Metro South Health Recipe Competition Champion 2026, earning a place on hospital menus across the health service.

And unlike the porridge in the classic fairytale, this winning recipe has been put through some serious testing to make sure it’s just right for patients.

The competition attracted eight recipes from across Metro South Health, with entries assessed through dietetic and speech pathology review, operational assessment and consumer taste testing.

Logan’s porridge came out on top, scoring an impressive 44.75 out of 50 in consumer taste testing. But it wasn’t just taste that had the judges coming back for more.

The recipe boasts a strong nutritional profile, including higher protein content, and is simple to prepare on a large scale, with no pre-soaking required. That means less fuss in the kitchen and a nutritious breakfast option for patients.

It also passed Speech Pathology review for texture modification suitability, with the same base recipe able to be adapted for different texture-modified diet levels.

In other words, it’s a carefully developed recipe designed to meet the diverse needs of hospital patients.

The winning recipe will now become the standard for porridge at Metro South Health plating-line sites, with the allergen-friendly and special-diets porridge recipe also selected for implementation, subject to some minor refinements.

Congratulations to the team on this fantastic achievement!
