Two mums who formed a special bond during their stay in Logan Hospital’s Special Care Nursery have returned to say thank you in celebration of their babies’ first birthdays.

Chantal and Kiah met while their babies, Sophie and Luca, were being cared for in Ward 2N, finding comfort and friendship in each other during those long days in hospital.

The first-time and sixth-time mums have stayed in touch throughout their babies’ first year and agreed there was no better place to mark the milestone than with the team who supported them through their earliest weeks.

Chantal and Kiah said they remember their stay in the nursery as clearly as if it were yesterday, recalling both the challenges and the kindness that made such a difference.

“We’ll always be grateful for the entire team on the ward for making our stay a little less frightening,” they said.

Now thriving toddlers, both born prematurely at 35 weeks, Sophie and Luca continue to grow side by side and even attend swimming lessons together.

The 2N team said their day is always brighter when families return to show off their (now not-so) little ones and share their post-hospital memories.
