Logan Hospital’s gynaecology and nursing team has performed the first ever outpatient hysteroscopy procedures at its dedicated hub for women inside the Meadowbrook Health Centre.
The exciting new milestone is part of a growing range of women’s health services now being delivered at the Centre and an important move towards improving choice for women while freeing up valuable operating capacity at Logan Hospital for more complex procedures.
Women’s Health Services at the Meadowbrook Health Centre opened in July 2025 providing a modern, calm and welcoming environment to receive care away from the busy hospital campus.
Deputy Director of Gynaecology Dr Hasthika Ellepola said bringing the hysteroscopy service to Meadowbrook not only expanded access to outpatient care but gave eligible women a quicker, less invasive alternative to having their procedure in an operating theatre under general anaesthetic.
“Women across Logan have had more choice in how they receive hysteroscopy since outpatient procedures were introduced at Logan Hospital in 2024,” he said.
“Patients can decide what they are comfortable with after discussing their options with their treating team.”
Dr Ellepola said the introduction of the service at Meadowbrook was made possible thanks to strong collaborative partnerships with teams at Robina and Sunshine Coast hospitals sharing their expertise and learning from their experience to develop the service.
Outpatient Clinical Nurse Caitlyn Shepherd said it had been a great start for the service with the first patients treated at Meadowbrook reporting positive experiences, with both recovering quickly and uneventfully.
“Offering this service provides the patient with autonomy to guide the procedure and allows patients an option to view the procedure while having a support person available, including nurses,” she said.
“We hope to bring patients comfort, choice, confidence and support while requiring gynaecological support.”
Caitlyn said the team hoped the success of the outpatient hysteroscopy service would pave the way for introducing more outpatient procedures in the future.
“We hope this will support the growth of services that align with patients’ health conditions, give them greater choice in their treatment and help lessen the burden of waiting times and waitlists,” she said.
The team said they were proud to be delivering more high-quality care closer to home for Logan women and helping hospital teams to best utilise resources and theatre capacity.
