Logan Hospital’s Mental Health service is getting a major upgrade that includes a brand-new ward and significant refurbishments as part of the Logan Hospital Expansion Project.
Delivered in two stages, the project will enhance the care experience for consumers and create a more calming, therapeutic space for both consumers and staff.
Stage 1, which is nearing completion, includes new Ward 2R, as well as the refurbishment of Ward 2B.
Stage 2 will deliver upgrades to Ward 2C and is due for completion later this year.
Ward 2R will feature six single rooms with ensuites, as well as a new lounge and courtyard, offering improved privacy and comfort for consumers who require acute mental health care.
Metro South's Addiction and Mental Health Services Paula Lunt said these new facilities were designed to support better patient flow from the Emergency Department and ensure those in need of specialised observation and treatment received care in the most appropriate setting.
She said the design had been developed with healing in mind.
“The rooms have big windows to let in natural light, and the courtyard was designed with input from people with lived experience, to feel homely and safe,” Paula said. “These thoughtful elements will help reduce stress and enhance wellbeing for consumers, while also supporting families and the dedicated staff who care for them.”
The Logan Hospital Expansion continues to transform how healthcare is delivered, and this mental health upgrade is another step toward building better healthcare, closer to home for our community.
