LEADS team celebrates achievement

LEADS has another ‘first’ to add to its long list of proud moments, recently becoming the first Centre of Excellence for diabetes in Queensland.

This prestigious accolade recognised LEADS for meeting the highest standards of accreditation in diabetes care, encompassing key domains such as service delivery, education, national influence, research, and practice policy development.

Since its inception in early 2022, LEADS has provided care to around 1100 patients per month.

The clinic was also in the limelight earlier this year for breaking new ground in healthcare by beginning an Australian-first Ramadan clinic.

Clinical Director Dr Gaurav Puri said the centre’s innovative services and pioneering hospital avoidance model of care, run in partnership with Queensland Ambulance Services, impressed national assessors.

The team was humble in their acceptance of their new status, crediting collaboration and authentic patient care for their success.

“Success is never an accident, and I would like to convey our sincerest gratitude to everyone we have met on this journey of exceptional achievement,” Dr Puri said.

In true LEADership style, the team now has their sites set on growing other diabetes services around the state.

“This is just the beginning because the quest to add the next Diabetes Centre of Excellence to Queensland's map starts now!
