For Graduate Nurse Emily Shevchuk, caring for patients at the end of their life is a great privilege.
After joining Logan’s Palliative Care team in February this year, Emily said she already felt like she had found her calling.
“My love for palliative care has grown since I started here and I have found my passion and where I feel like I belong,” she said.
Emily praised the compassion, kindness and patience shown by her colleagues, describing the team as incredibly supportive.
“The team has taught me the importance of having a great group of people who truly care for one another,” she said.
In just a few short months on the ward, Emily has already experienced many meaningful moments with patients and families.
“It’s sitting with patients and hearing their life stories during some of their hardest chapters, but also those heavy but beautiful moments when staff and families share a hug and a silent understanding after a patient passes away,” she said.
This Palliative Care Week, we are celebrating Emily along with all our incredible palliative care nurses and doctors who provide compassionate care, comfort and support to patients and families during some of life’s most difficult moments. Their kindness, empathy and dedication make a lasting difference every single day.
