The Medical Assessment and Planning Unit's Rapid Access Service (MAPU RAS) at Princess Alexandra Hospital provides assessment and treatment for selected medical conditions requiring escalation of care, helping patients avoid an emergency department presentation.

The service operates Monday to Thursday, 9am–4.30pm (excluding public holidays).

Suitable referrals include:

• iron deficiency anaemia requiring IV iron
• cellulitis
• urinary tract infections / pyelonephritis
• chest infections
• heart failure exacerbations.

To refer, call the MAPU RAS clinical nurse consultant on 3176 3275 to discuss eligibility, then fax the referral to 3176 3399.

Eligible patients will be contacted directly to arrange assessment and treatment.
