Redland Hospital has created a better experience for children with the introduction of three new blood gas testing systems and an advanced jaundice treatment system.

Paediatric Clinical Nurse Consultant Lisa Gabb said the new equipment would help keep children and families more comfortable and streamline care.

“The new blood gas testing will be located in Lamb Ward, the Special Care Nursery, and Women and Birthing,” she said.

“The testing systems simplify blood tests, reducing tears for children because they don’t need to have multiple ‘pricks’ for blood tests.

“Parents no longer have to wait for hours for the results.

“Now, with these advanced analysers, we can provide results within 90 seconds,” she said.

“This not only reduces stress for children and parents but also allows for quicker treatment and more focused patient care,” she said.

Lisa said the hospital had also purchased a third Bili Cocoon, a fibre optic phototherapy system that enabled jaundiced babies to receive treatment at home.

“The Bili Cocoon allows mums to breastfeed and cuddle their babies while they receive treatment, which is a significant improvement over traditional methods.”
