Redland Hospital’s brand-new Amity Ward is now open, boosting medical and respiratory care for the Redlands Coast.

Cleveland’s Roy Slater was the first patient through the doors and he praised staff for their warm welcome and outstanding care.

"The staff have set the bar incredibly high," Roy said.

Executive Director Greg Nolan said seeing the first patients arrive was a proud moment for staff.

"Moments like this make the mammoth effort behind the scenes worthwhile," he said. "From the project team to allied health, pharmacy, operational and food services to our nursing and medical teams, the logistics and care involved behind the scenes can’t be underestimated.

"Our hospital has grown by more than 30 per cent in the past two years, which is an enormous achievement and despite this growth, visitors continue to comment on the friendly atmosphere here at Redland Hospital.

"As Roy said, the attitude of our staff reflects the entire organisation, and we should all be really proud of that.”
