Security and Response Team out and about

The Bayside Health Service Safety and Response Team operates 24/7 across Bayside facilities, helping prevent occupational violence, support vulnerable patients and maintain a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors.

The team recently visited Marie Rose Centre to strengthen relationships with staff and become more familiar with the facility's unique operating environment.

Facility Security Manager Michael McDonald said understanding each clinical setting was an important part of the team's role.

"Every healthcare environment is different, so it's important our officers understand the people, the services and the challenges unique to each facility," Michael said. "Our role is to help prevent occupational violence wherever possible and support staff when difficult situations arise. Building relationships before an incident occurs helps us respond more effectively."

Michael said the visit also provided an opportunity for team members to engage with staff in a more informal setting.

"It was great to get some of the team out of uniform and over to the island to meet the staff at Marie Rose Centre," he said. "We do our best to de-escalate situations, support people who may be distressed and help create a safe environment so staff can focus on providing care."
