Smiling female clinician in outpatients

Recovery doesn’t end when patients leave the ward, and at Redland Hospital the Outpatients team is keeping the journey on track.

With Acting Clinical Nurse Consultant Stevie Bruce leading the team, patients recovering from surgery are getting expert support to heal faster and get back to a full life sooner.

Outpatients supports people who have had hip and knee replacements, helping with wound care, dressing selection and suture removal, as well as guiding them on their next steps in physiotherapy.

“If I’m being honest, removing stitches is my favourite part of my day job,” Stevie said.

She also plays an important role in plastics clinics, where patients return after skin cancer surgery for ongoing wound care.

“These cases are often more complex, and I really like the challenge of finding the right dressing to support the healing process,” she said.

Recently stepping into an acting Clinical Nurse role, Stevie has also been helping to manage referrals and ensure patients are seen at the right time.

"Our role in outpatients is integral to helping people stay out of hospital," she said. “We want to make sure all of our patients attend their appointments and are seen by the right people, at the right time to help in their recovery.”
