Patients like Bayside Men’s Shed member Ian Anderson now have access to hearing tests closer to home, thanks to an audiology clinic at the Bayside Health Service Centre.

Ian, who recently needed a hearing assessment after an operation, said the new service in Cleveland had made a world of difference.

“Being able to do the test in Cleveland instead of travelling to Brisbane made a huge difference - it’s much closer, easier to park, and far more convenient,” Ian said.

The clinic, a collaboration between Bayside Health Service and PAH Audiology, offers comprehensive hearing tests that assess the entire auditory pathway, providing a level of care beyond standard hearing services.

PAH Director of Audiology David da Silva said the response from patients like Ian had been overwhelmingly positive.

“We’re already seeing strong demand for this service, and the local access has reduced the number of appointment cancellations.

“Delivering this service is in line with Metro South Health’s commitment to putting patients at the centre of our decision-making.”

PAH Audiologist David Patmore, who performed Ian’s tests, said it was excellent to be able to deliver the service to the Bayside community, with follow-ups or more complex cases being managed at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

"It’s clear patients value having this option closer to home,” he said.

Director of Allied Health Michael Harris said the clinic was designed to make high-quality audiology care more accessible for our community.

“The clinic offers comprehensive hearing tests that go beyond standard hearing services,” Mr Harris said.
