Three women in matching blue shirts are exercising with dumbbells and a blue sponge, promoting health and fitness.

Meredith, Leann and Sophie are the newest faces supporting patients through their recovery on Amity Ward.

Dietitian Meredith said her path into healthcare was shaped by a fascination with food and chemistry.

“I always enjoyed learning about chemistry and food production in school,” she said.

“I didn’t know much about career options until a friend suggested dietetics.”

Sophie, an experienced Occupational Therapist (OT), said she was excited to return to Redland Hospital and was looking forward to the opening of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“I knew I wanted to upskill in this area and return to the great community we have here,” Sophie said.

Allied Health Support worker Leann, who worked in IT for 15 years, said it was an encounter with an Occupational Therapist who helped her son that changed her career direction.

“I knew I needed a change, and what a change it was – from sitting behind a screen all day to hitting 10,000 steps a day without even trying,” Leann said.

Director of Allied Health Michael Harris welcomed his new staff to the expanding Allied Health team.

“We have a great culture and amazing team across our Allied Health professions at Bayside Health Service," he said. “Welcoming new people to our team and opening a new ward have all created an amazing environment for professional growth and learning."
