Bayside Health Service’s Isobel Dahler has been named the 2026 Metro South Health Graduate Midwife of the Year.

The award was presented during Metro South Health’s Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery Sunrise Breakfast, held as part of International Nurses Day and International Day of the Midwife celebrations.

Director of Nursing and Midwifery Amanda Garner said Isobel exemplified the professionalism of Bayside’s midwifery workforce.

“Isobel is an exceptional young midwife who has already made a positive impact on women, babies and families in our community,” Ms Garner said.

“We are incredibly proud to see her recognised at a Metro South level.”

Isobel said being recognised as Metro South Health’s Graduate Midwife of the Year was a surreal experience.

“Being voted for this award affirms that my journey of professional development in this first year of clinical practice has been noticed and valued by my wonderful colleagues,” she said.

Isobel completed all requirements of her graduate year while working across Bayside Women and Birthing, including becoming the first graduate midwife to rotate through the Neonatal Unit as part of a new initiative.

She also helped develop a video resource for women and families preparing for caesarean birth, aimed at reducing fear and anxiety around the peri-operative experience.

"I hope the video helps women familiarise themselves with the operating theatre, reduce anxiety and feel confident to advocate for their needs and wishes, despite being in an unfamiliar birthing environment,” she said.

Ms Garner said the award emphasised the importance of providing support to new graduates as they began their careers.

“Supporting and growing our future workforce is so important because today’s graduates are tomorrow’s leaders in healthcare,” she said.
