Bayside Health Service recently welcomed Physiotherapy Clinical Education Coordinator Mark Ahrens to the Amity Ward team.
With nine years of experience in hospitals across Australia and the UK, Mark brings a wealth of knowledge, energy, and a passion for hands-on care.
“I was drawn to hospital physiotherapy because it offered a dynamic environment - far from any cubicle,” he said.
“I love that every day I work with a dedicated team and get to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives, whether it’s helping them reach their goals or supporting them as they return to the activities they love.”
Mark’s journey has taken him all over the world - including working on the frontline of the Covid outbreak in the UK - but it’s his passion for education that brings him to this next chapter.
“What led me here is my desire to help shape the future generation of physiotherapists through clinical education.
“I’m excited to develop a program that makes full use of the new Amity Ward and Intensive Care Unit facilities.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to give students valuable, real-world experience.”
Outside of work, Mark is a self-proclaimed adventurer. He’s visited nearly 70 countries, spent two years living in a campervan, and loves rock climbing and woodworking.
“If I weren’t in healthcare, I’d probably be an adventure guide,” he laughs.
“I love encouraging people to step outside their comfort zone.”
Mark lives by the words of naturalist John Muir: “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” And yes - he really can do a double heel click. Just ask for a demo!
