Event overview
Join clinicians, researchers and other health professionals at our sixth annual Research Symposium as they share their advancements in health research and innovation.
This year’s theme is Inclusive research for health equity, highlighting the importance of collaboration, diversity, and community engagement in advancing meaningful health outcomes for all.
The symposium will feature local researchers, keynote presentations, panel discussions, poster exhibitions, and networking opportunities, with both in-person and online participation options.
Key note speakers
Professor Roxanne Bainbridge
Gunggari/Kunja Medical Anthropologist
University of Queensland
Professor Roxanne Bainbridge's work focuses on improving health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. She leads research that brings together Indigenous knowledges, systems science, implementation science and biomedical approaches to better understand and improve health systems. Roxanne examines how culture, social structures, power and policy influence health, healthcare and health outcomes. Her work identifies opportunities to address inequities and support meaningful health system reform. She is committed to translating research into practical solutions that strengthen health services, inform policy and improve care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Roxanne is recognised for her transdisciplinary approach, which brings together diverse perspectives to improve the design, delivery and impact of healthcare.
Dr Ya-Ling Huang
Senior Lecturer, School of Nursing and Midwifery at Griffith University
Dr Ya-Ling Huang's research focuses on evidence-based practice and health services research to improve patient outcomes and strengthen the delivery of healthcare services. Ya-Ling has expertise in the areas of cultural and social influences on health, palliative and end-of-life care, chronic conditions, and the healthcare needs of culturally and linguistically diverse communities. She is committed to translating research into practice to support high-quality, person-centred care and to improve health outcomes across diverse populations. Throughout her nursing career, Ya-Ling has held teaching, clinical and research roles and has been recognised for her contributions to research excellence, professional nursing practice and student learning.
Her awards include:
- Vice Chancellor Award for Research Excellence: Inspiring Researcher (Dean's Nomination), Southern Cross University
- Registered Nurse Expert Level, Nursing and Midwifery Professional Recognition Program, Gold Coast Health
- Excellence in Supporting Learning Recognition Award for outstanding contribution to undergraduate nursing student learning, Metro South Health.
