We are one of Queensland's thirteen Public Health Units. We work in Brisbane South, Logan, Redlands, and the Scenic Rim to prevent disease, illness, and injury. We manage environmental risks and encourage overall health in our community.

Our team is made up of public health doctors, environmental health officers, public health nurses, epidemiologists, public health officers, contact tracers, administration officers and investigators.

Communicable diseases

Communicable diseases are caused by a bacteria or virus and spread from person to person. While most of these diseases are mild and last only a few days, some can become much more serious.

We can help the community and other organisations with:

  • advice on how to stop diseases from spreading
  • advice and support with vaccination
  • what to do if there is an outbreak
  • contact individuals who has been in contact with an infected person who is very sick

Environmental health risks

We manage environmental risks and hazards that could cause illness or injury, including:

  • food and water
  • mosquitoes, insects and other pests
  • natural disasters
  • pollution
  • harmful substances
  • chemicals and radiation.

To make a food safety complaint go to the Queensland Government website.
