QEII Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit is proving that engagement, teamwork and commitment to common goals are essential to success and patient care is the ultimate winner.
Over the 12 months to June 2023, the team of health professionals worked together with accountability and excellence resulting in significant improvements in patient care.
ICU Nurse Unit Manager, Cathy Cole said the cohesiveness of the whole team has benefited from the injection of fresh ideas and camaraderie of new personnel, making them a force to be reckoned with and a clinical example to follow.
“The individual outcomes for each patient are at the forefront of the care they receive in our ICU and it is a true multidisciplinary approach that helps to get patients better and out of ICU sooner.
“In this sort of environment with one-to-one nursing, clinicians can get really focussed on their individual patient, but this team show a sense of cohesion and remember that they are part of a larger team working towards the same goals for each patient,” she said.
The team won the QEII Crew team award for June with the nomination highlighting their collaboration and dedication to exceptional care and support, and outcome measures showing that each patient receives the highest level of medical attention in a safe and supportive environment.
Cathy praised the whole ICU team is an inspiration, saying their success is a testament to the power of teamwork and collaboration.
“The fact that they have won the team award is really well deserved and is a reflection on their team bond and support for each other while providing care for some very challenging patients.”
