Decades may have passed since they last saw each other, but this group of former nurses have proved work friendships really can last a lifetime.

The graduates of 1964 and 1974 gathered at the PA Past and Present Nurses Association’s 57th annual reunion and AGM earlier this month with a total of 55 nurses in attendance.

Secretary Melanie Tucker said there’s no better example of the hospital’s rich nursing history, with plenty of stories swapped about work life and the old nurses quarters.

“It was a fabulous event enjoyed by all and an opportunity to catch up with past friends and nurses in the PA Staff Dining room,” she said.

“We acknowledged former Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery Veronica Casey for her dedication to the association, and also celebrated outgoing President Karen Slater for all her hard work which has been so appreciated by everyone in the association and beyond.

“Karen Boch, who is well known in her role of Manager Patient Safety and Quality was nominated and voted in as the new President for next year.”

The day was also momentous for Mel, the Director of Business Delivery at Digital Health and Informatics, as she prepares to retire and farewell PAH after 41 incredible years.

Mel’s kindness, experience, and commitment will be remembered long after she leaves the building on 20 December. But she’s not going too far and will be staying on as Secretary of the Association.
